The town of Kirkby Stephen is a small town in the Upper Eden valley area of Cumbria. It is approximately 20 minutes from Sedbergh, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park near to the Lake District. Map of journey.

The famous 'Settle to Carlisle' railway - England's most scenic railway, runs through Garsdale, Dent and Kirkby Stephen. The line opened in 1876 and despite two attempts to close it, it remains open. The 72 mile journey passes through the beautiful Yorskhire Dales until Garsdale. After this stop, it ventures into the Eden Valley up to Carlisle.
