The town of Kendal, in Cumbria and near to the Lake District, is Sedbergh's nearest 'big' town. It isn't as big as Lancaster (approximately 40 mins heading south on the M6) but it does have everything you might need, without having to go too far. It takes around 20 minutes to get to Kendal from Sedbergh. Map of journey.

There are many attractions for visitors to the area. Perhaps the most famous being Kendal Castle. The castle was probably built in the late 12th century and has been in a ruinous state since the Tudor period. At Kendal Museum there is an exhibition telling the story of the castle, its people and the life of the town.
