A breathtaking valley which defines the south eastern edge of the Howgill Fells - this is Garsdale. Not a village, but a valley. From Sedbergh to Garsdale takes about 10 minutes. Map of journey. In the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and near to the Lake District, this village is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The A684 runs through Garsdale from Sedbergh to Hawes.A mile in the centre is signposted 'Garsdale' and includes the main street.
The famous 'Settle to Carlisle' railway - England's most scenic railway, runs through Garsdale, Dent and Kirkby Stephen. The line opened in 1876 and despite two attempts to close it, it remains open. The 72 mile journey passes through the beautiful Yorskhire Dales until Garsdale. After this stop, it ventures into the Eden Valley up to Carlisle.
